Since February 26, 2008, Chef Alan Pronko, along with his wife Angela, son Frederick and daughter, Marie, opened the doors to Maria’s Comida and have been serving “A Taste Of Mexico” in the City of Hamtramck. This family owned and operated restaurant has been voted Best New Restaurant 2008 by Metrotimes and has had the opportunity to cater to Hollywood’s elite stars such as Drew Barrymore, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Hilary Swank.
Maria’s has become well-known for their House Made Chips and Salsa, made fresh daily and served complimentary to dine-in guests. Meet Our Family
Executive Chef Alan received his education from the Culinary Arts Program at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. He has used his education, creativity and passion for culinary arts at various restaurants such as Jacks Waterfront, Village Grille and Bar, Bo’s Brewery and Pike Street. In 1998, he accepted the position as Sous Chef for P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Somerset Collection, until the grand opening of Maria's Comida in 2008. Chef Alan has also served as the resident caterer for local movie productions, private parties and weddings. His culinary skills have been featured with Fox 2 News, Eastern Market and WB20’s Fear Factor held at Erebus Haunted House.
Angela continues to be employed with Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan as a Project Manager. Here, she assists individuals and families that are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. Prior to her employment with Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan, she worked with Michigan's Work First Program, as well as Kowalski Sausage Company and Sweetheart Bakery.
Sous Chef Frederick developed his culinary skills under the direction and guidance of his father. Frederick trained with Chef Alan at Bo’s Brewery, as well as P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Somerset Collection. In addition to his culinary skills, Frederick has nearly 9 years of distribution and warehousing experience with Goldstar Foodservice Products and Equipment, Extreme Transportation and Simon and Leeman Produce Company.
Front of the House Manager Marie, graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating college, Marie worked as a Licensing Consultant for various non-profit foster care/adoption agencies in Wayne/Oakland Counties. While working as a Social Worker, Marie had always expressed an interest in owning and operating a restaurant; therefore, began catering events and private parties with her father. After many years, Marie’s interest and enthusiasm to open a restaurant with her family grew and resulted in the opening of Maria’s Comida.
